Charcoal

A few days ago while driving back to Wanna’s village on the back roads, I came across a small charcoal making kiln. Seemed to be in the middle of nowhere with no one around. It was very well made and stood out all the more because of the way it was all so tidy. It was made of the local red earth and on close inspection it was a well used kiln. The inside walls had hardened and collected some layers of charcoal and become well sealed. The ‘door’ appeared to have been cut from the kiln walling and was clearly just placed back in position when required. Simple and clever.

I’d come across a charcoal making set up last year in Karachi and had taken a few photos. Completely different setting. http://alan-in-karachi.blogspot.com/2008/05/charcoal-and-things-that-pass-you-byb.html

I took a short video which shows the door/cover to the kiln.
