Ghana 48 Relaxing again.................

Another Sunday on the beach.  Very relaxing. Had some fresh prawns bough from the ladies on the beach. So easy to rent a shed. Its clean and has seats and tables. Toilet is the side of the tree round the back !!!

The chap we rent form, he brings along the Bar B Q and charcoal. And all we bring is a boom box, cold beer and some food stuffs.

Wanna had done some fried rice and salads. We even ended up melting marshmallows.  I was put in charge of the music.  SO lots of old memory lane stuff off YouTube..... Had not done that since I was a kid.

Great time had by all.🍷

What to buy ?

Almost had the beach to ourselves....  BTW the eggs she is selling are hard boiled. She sells them with a small chili salad. She shells the egg and cuts it through then puts in the salad. Amazingly good. You also see these for sale along the road side and especially at the traffic lights.

On the way, they  have finished selling to us.... :-)🐡

This time they are selling fresh coconut juice.

My lady getting in the mood.

Ghana 47 School Kids visit to site.

Had a fun morning yesterday. We invited about 30 of the local school kids with their teachers for a trip to our construction site.  They were so full of excitement and together with their teachers it was a really wonderful couple of hours.  They went to see the construction works out at the sea front, then back to our conference room for quick chit chat.  We handed out a few presents comprising school note books, and pencils and of course some sweets.  In additional we gave them all a individually named certificate to each and everyone of them confirming they had attended our site. Amazing excitement. Out site team excelled themselves.

All this was topped off with one of the girls saying a thank you prayer afterwards.  All quite an amazing morning.  Feel pretty good about it. What a team.

Ghana Community Project 01 Part 04 Aquaponics ICB Tank 🐠

Kids and teachers still happy with our efforts and I am pleased to report solar panel still going strong....  Seedling are beginning to grow.  Unless something really exciting happens on this project I'll stop reporting as it is so similar to my aquaponic posts.  Its just a really good feeling to be able to help the schools and get something done for them... Looking back on life I do not think I have given a lot back.  Been easy to take, but giving,  whole new concept......  :-)

Ghana 46 Railways and no trains

When I first came to Ghana the local railway Accra to Tema route passed within about 20 meters of my office. Noisy I hear you thinking. Well yes, for the two trips a day which occurred once with an Accra to Tema run at 6.35am and a return run from Tema to Accra at around 3.15pm. Single small gauge rail.  The train and carriages. Well it was a 3 carriage affair with a noisy smoke laddened diesel engine unit.  Normally I counted between 10-15 customers. Open doors etc etc.  I had added to my Ghana bucket list a trip on this route.  However as is usual with these things I should be done ASAP. Grasp the moment as it were. So time passed. About 3 months after me arriving in Ghana the trains stopped running.  The train not trains I should say, as they only had the one... and yes it had fallen off the rails. Literally..... That was over 12 months ago and only now do we see the service engine running around with no carriages. So no passengers.

The rail track remains very silent, and now we see the odd engine shunting by. Hopefully before I leave the train service will be back in full swing. I wait with baited breath !

Ghana 45 Road Trip to Aburi part 3 of 3

Ghana 45 Road Trip to Aburi part 2 of 3

Ghana 45 Road Trip to Aburi part 1 of 3

Aburi.  About 40 kilometers north of Accra.  It is a town/area situated on the top of a small set of rolling hills over looking Accra. Good dual carriageway to get there and once arrived you notice it is a little, not much, cooler. Aburi-History

I think we did a posting about the botanical gardens a few months ago. So this time we decided to get a few shots of the road side life and general views. Unfortunately due the the hamadan the views appear somewhat cloudy but there was little I could do about this.

On the way....

Road Side wood carving shop.  You can also buy building blocks...

Couple of road side views. A few shots of the bars by the seaside on the way to work.  Busy at weekends but look very tired and dirty early mornings.....

Ghana 43 Street Scenes

Few days back I posted a photo of the typical toll booth showing the rear end of at truck passing through. In fact I had been in two minds as to weather I should post it all, thinking it was kind of uninteresting....but I needed to add a few extra photos so up it went.

Thought no more of it till traveling to work this morning....  Well we got to the toll booth as usual, bit congested. And I saw the same sights again but this time it was different.  The truck driver, this time had clearly decided to try and pass through in a novel way, taking his vehicle on its side !!! How did he even manager to tip the truck in such a situation ? Unbelieveable....

A photo says a 1,000 words for sure !!!

Ghana 42 Street Scenes

🏡I keep numbering my blog posts. Hopefully I'll get to some reasonable figure in due course. 100+....?

Not much of a title is it ? Number xxx followed by Number yyy but having said that it does make me  conscious of the numbers. Or rather the number of blogs posted. Any guesses on where I end up by the end of the year.

Anyway to add one more today No 42.  I was on the way to work this morning and decided not to get out of the car for a few shots. Very lazy, took a couple of snaps of the road side and the back end of a few trucks going through the motorway toll booths.

Ghana Community Project 01 Part 03 Aquaponics ICB Tank 🐠

Few fish dies over the weekend. Still plenty left. Explained to them that they only need a small amount of food. 🐠🐟🐟🐠 Too much is bad for them, bit like us humans 😀We added some seeds and will from now on make a weekly check on how it is all going.

Head Teacher, she is very very pleased with it all.

For me personally.  Well great to be able to give something back to the community and at the same time have it being something I actually enjoy.

Ghana 41 Sunrise

The best part of the day.  Sunrise.

Makes one feel alive and ready to face the world....

I know evenings and late nights are great fun.  But.... to sit early morning with a coffee on my balcony and see the sun rise, even if it is over some dusty buildings.  Its a great feeling and is quite spectacular. They, the buildings are not really so dusty, its more what's in the air itself. Its that time of year. The Hamatan as its called and best described as  "a very dry, dusty easterly or north-easterly wind on the West African coast, occurring from December to February."

Its a sort of prolonged dust storm where the dust just hangs in the air. On a good day a few months back I could have seen the mountains in the distance but these next few months that will not be the case.
