Ghana 39 Accra Zoo

Situated within the City limits is a place called Accra Zoo. Its just off a main dual carriageway. As you turn off you are immediately transported into what we all call real Africa, dust, dried up trees and lots of people walking along with the usual range of coloured plastic bags stuck to trees or for the lucky ones a brief flight across the gaps before being caught up again in a thorn trees or bush.....

All this on a red earth track. The track starts as you turn off the dual carriage way there is no slow deterioration or transition. One minute you are dodging trucks and buses and then calm. All within 5 meters. Quite a shock in one way and also a lovely relief form the incessant traffic.

Are you start going "inland" you do start to wonder just where you are going whilst remembering City Centre is only about 2 kilometers as the crow flys.... ON you go for about 10 minutes passing various groups of people walking along.  All very cheerful and big smiles. Finally the rad stops. Park up the car and frankly where we parked does not look much different to the road except the cleared area is bigger. We are greeted by the Zoo Keepers. Fitted out in Bush green uniforms. Finlo our friend who took us there was a well know visitor as he had an interest n seeing one of the Pythons growing.  So we were all greeted like old friends and given the guided tour...

How to describe it.  Old, tried, in  a poor state of decay, clearly no maintenance, but this was somewhat irrelevant after seeing that all was made good by the enthusiasm of the team running the place.  It was clear the animals were well looked after and fed. There was evidence of fresh cut grass et on each pen and all in all a relaxing and tranquil place.

Would I go back.  Yes for sure.

Ghana 38 Food

Was busy earlier today putting my recent photos onto my external hard drive. In doing the sorting I realized I had a whole lot of food photos. Well a mix of Ghana, Thai etc and so here they are. The list of must try dishes in Ghana should be going down as I work my way through them but....it is going up and up as more and more people recommend additional ones to me.  Most below are Thai and the last being Ethiopian.....  Back to Ghana ones next post !!!!!

Ghana 37

Now back in Ghana from the Christmas break. Had a few days in Seychelles and Thailand. Not long enough. Never is....

Now busy trying to keep the new years resolutions going. First off drink less.  That's working well so far. I had little over the holiday and coming back here there is even less incentive.  Might also be an age thing but I do so hope I can keep it better under control. Plan is to ensure this happens. Not sure how long the coffee substitutions will continue.

Music is on my list.  Listen to more and play more. I restarted my key board playing. By restarting I mean just than.  Started from the beginning of the course. Its actually a real good measure of just how far I have come.  Some of the earlier tunes are really easy then I get stuck. Before when I was playing on the on line training programme I had a tendency to bash on and try and pass each test around the 50% level. now I'm trying harder and not rushing.  In fact enjoying it far more....  Same for guitar. Although I do have difficulty getting the sounds down to what I want to here.... Time to learn properly and enjoy, and of course follow the new year resolutions...

The other strange thing that's happened to me in last few days it two persons separately have asked me about why I am still working......  That resonated through my head last night....  Why because I enjoy and even with working I still manage to fit on the other things I want to do. Long may it last.

We are planning a short canal trip later on in the year and that should be fun. Llangollen canal to be precise. Just for a few days. Need to sort out tickets and flights etc.

Now back to my resolutions.  Work it is ..........

Ghana 36 Food

Following on from my cooking photos.  Ordered street food. Wahchi.  Also had some grilled Tilipia.

Arrived in two black plastic bag. One full of rice with a little bit of spicy tomato sauce.  The other ... inside the second plastic bag was a banana leaf wrap. It contained rice mixed with brown/black  beans and some tomato paste which includes some chilies. Its suitable to be eaten by everybody. No meat, but sometimes you can get fish in the beans if you order them. Actually very tasty this way. Also not too hot and for me not enough salt......

And the grilled fish.....

Bon Appetit!!!

We popped over to La Digue for about 2 hours. Took a couple of photos and then back to Mahe. All too short.
