Just been to a smallish town called Centurion. Situated
between Johannesburg and Pretoria. It’s
a dormitory town or a sort of out of town suburb.
Why did I go ? Good question. Work or rather for 2 x 2 day courses
on the AECOM Project Management systems and Project Management. Bit late in life to teach an old dog new
tricks! But be positive, it got me out
of the office for a few days. And I was able to put faces to the names on
emails. So all in all a good trip.
I did not get any time to explore. Did manage on last day to
get to a massive mega store selling tools and building stuff. Bit like I
imagine heaven, where I hope we do not have to use a credit card !!!!!!
I bought a couple of tank connectors. You’re thinking I went
all the way to South Africa to buy tank connector ? What was I thinking? You know the type of connector that joins a
pipe through a plastic tank wall. Truth I bought 2 ! If you don’t know no
problem, consider yourself lucky you can get through life without one !! Bit
sad I even took aphoto of one !!
2 No connectors... |
Suffice to say I have been unable to find these in Thailand.
Surprising really when it is the land of plenty. Anyway got the two I wanted for
me for my new planned aquaponics system which will be up and running back in
Accra in a few week time after my holidays… Wanna does not know this yet !!!!
Anyway moving on. I basically spent all my time here either
in a conference room or in the hotel watching TV. Not much of a life but it did
actually provide me with some relaxing time. Even managed to restart my Blogs
so must be some good in all that… So
actually I feel quite rested.
The office environment was interesting. Nearly everyone was
speaking Africans. Except when in the lectures where the office language was
English. Thank God ! I took a few photos from hotel room and the train. Very flat country side so the photos are what
they are. Not much else on this trip.
Interesting most in the office speak Africans as the norm
rather than English. I am told in Johannesburg only 45 kilometres away the main
language is English. Here if you speak
English they think you are a tourist. Pretoria is the government area and Jo’Burg is the commercial centre. Interesting fact I know…..
But if you’ve read the title why mention bottled water?
During the last four days we have been provided with bottled water. Fien then
for some unknown reason I decided to
read the label. I have never before
drank Freshly squeezed purified water
!!!!!!!! I have seen a lot of
marketing gimics in my time but this….. Even I did not fall for it….
Bottled Water. If you did not see this you would not have believed it !!!! |
Back to Accra tonight. Have
myself some fresh normal water.
